I do not usually play adventure games, so when I play and even more when I post a review about an adventure game it must be truly unique. And Syberia 1 is truly a unique game experience in a strange world of automatons. (Warning: Never call robot an automaton because they get easily offended).
The protagonist of the series is Kate Walker, a young lawyer who is handed what seems a fairly straight forward assignment. To handle the sale of an old toy factory in the alpine valleys. This seemingly easy task will lead Kate Walker to a perilous journey from Western Europe to the far reaches of Eastern Russia in her attempt to track down the last remaining heir of the property. In her journey, Kate will interact with a host of different characters while at the same time manipulating all sorts of clockwork devices or automatons as they are called, created by the sole heir of the factory who appears to be a genious inventor.
The graphics of the game are great although I would prefer a wide-screen remake or update at some point since I found myself many times just standing still and taking in the beautiful surroundings of the various landscapes. I would love having these images in much more detail. But no worries. Adventure games are primarily about the gameplay. Puzzles in this game are not extremely hard although some of them will be quite challenging. Dialogues with characters are interesting as you progress in the game and most of them will be quite memorable not just npcs to do the filling.
I do not call this just a game but a game experience because it truly is an experience of a different world. With it’s outstanding graphics and emotional atmosphere, this is a must have masterpiece.
